COVID-19으로 인해 잠시 껶였지만, 고객들이 하나 둘 제자리로 돌아오기 시작하면서 매출이 더 빠르게 오르고 있다. 그동안 고민하던 큰 고객들이 마음을 정한 것이 한 가지 이유이고, 전에는 콘서트와 바에서 이루어지던 활동들이 완전히 사라지다시피 하면서 모든 것이 디지털로 이루어지다보니 우리와 같이 디지털 활동을 측정하는 제품에 사람들이 더 시간을 많이 쓰게 된 것이 또 하나의 이유이다. 차트메트릭(Chartmetric) ARR 매출 곡선 오늘 쓰려는 주제는 ‘사업의 즐거움’이다. 칙센트 미하이가 쓴 ‘몰입의 즐거움 (Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience)’이라는 책을 참 좋아했는데, 한글 번역 제목을 흉내내어 봤다. 사업이 항상 즐겁기만 한 것은 아니지만, 나에게 있어 사업이 주는 즐거움은 각별한 의미가 있다. 그만큼 오랜동안 이 느낌을 궁금하게 생각해 왔고, 또 5년간 사업을 하면서 그 말의 의미를 여러번 되새겨 보았기 때문이다. 원래 나는 사업에는 조금도 관심이 없었다. 공군에서 근무하시는 아버지와 보험 영업을 하시던 어머니 사이에서 자라며 주변에 소위 ‘사업가’라는 사람들이 별로 없었고, 있었다 해도 내가 롤모델로 삼을 만한 사람들이 아니었기 때문에 사업은 나에게 마냥 먼 생각으로만 느껴졌다. 경제적으로 항상 넉넉하지 못했기 때문에, 일단 안정적으로 돈을 벌며 존경받을 수 있는 직업은 뭘까, 고등학교때는 그 생각만 했던 것 같다. 그렇게 해서 나온 결론이 고위공무원이었고, 그래서 행정학과에 지원했었다. 문과에서 공부했지만 공학에 대한 미련을 떨치지 못해 새로 만든 꿈은 변리사였다. 당시에 변리사 연봉이 한국 최고라는 신문 기사를 보고, 이거라면 괜찮겠다 싶었다. 우여곡절
